Religion AND Politics? Discuss or Not Discuss?

That really depends. If it's with someone you definitely do not know, then yes. You could be setting yourself for Lord knows what, especially with the election year we have just experienced. But that also goes for someone you really know and is hellbent are "conforming" you to their way of thinking, especially if you do not agree with them. However, if you are attending a function where for sure the two topics will be dicussed, then yes. It could make for an interesting time, depending on your views. Some advice to give you, though: be prepared and do your homework(such as brush up on current events).
