I Am Neither…So There

Are you a night owl or are you the early bird? What is your most productive time of day? When do you do your best work?

For myself, my best work time is late morning/early afternoon; a combination of the two. I so hate early mornings; you get up (already cursing at the start of day); get ready; fight traffic (whether in your car or taking public transportation), go into work; starting your day along with other individuals who are just as crabby as you, and these individuals have no problem letting you know that, and it goes downhill from there.

And even worse; you are dealing with those exact same elements at the end of your work day…as in the commute back to your home or whatever your after work routine happens to be. Some people can and do thrive in this madness…I do not.

I have worked nights for the early part of my working life…While in the beginning it was fun and easy to adapt to because I like my sleep, I find as I have matured; I turn into a pumpkin a lot earlier than later; which means Cinderella would have to catch a ride or stay home.

And because the hours of operation for most businesses are usually geared toward what the “business needs” are (which doesn’t necessarily work for the customer either, AT&T is a prime example of that), I have had to be creative and improvise based on what the available hours are…I hate early mornings, but I can no longer tolerate late nights either; hence my present work schedule.

I am also beginning to find that work/life balance…that is a post for another time.
